About Us

In a quiet kitchen, rich with the aroma of sizzling spices, began the story of Obalende

Foods, LLC, a testament to resilience and passion. Its founder, a remarkable Nigerian woman, embarked on a journey that would blend the essence of her homeland with the vibrancy of American culture.

Her journey to America marked the beginning of an adventurous chapter. Just six months into her new life, she joined the U.S. Army, demonstrating strength and courage. Balancing the demands of military life, she enrolled in college, all while raising a family. Her determination knew no bounds.

Education became her forte, and she excelled, eventually teaching and becoming an adjunct professor at the University of Redlands in California. Despite her dedication to academia, she never stopped dreaming of entrepreneurship. Her heart craved creation and innovation.

Amid her teaching commitments, she found solace and joy in making Suya, a beloved Nigerian delicacy. Her Suya was more than just a dish; it was a labor of love. She shared it with friends, family, and at community events, where it quickly became a sensation. The demand grew, echoing the rich flavors that connected people to her roots.

Recognizing the untapped potential of her culinary creation, she decided to transform her passion into a business. Her vision was clear: to introduce the rich diversity of African cuisine into the mainstream American food landscape, alongside well-known ethnic delights like wontons and tacos. Thus began Obalende Foods, a name that reflects the cultural bridge she aimed to build

With dedication and unwavering commitment, she navigated the meticulous process of packaging her Suya, obtaining USDA approval, and expanding her reach to major grocery stores. Her journey was not just about building a business; it was about sharing a piece of her heritage with the world.

The popularity of Obalende Suya grew, each package a celebration of culture, resilience, and the power of dreams. Her story inspires many, embodying the essence of following one's passion, no matter the challenges.

Through Obalende Foods, she not only offers a taste of Nigeria but also adds a vibrant note to the symphony of American cuisine. Her journey from a Nigerian immigrant and soldier to a visionary entrepreneur is a testament to the rich tapestry of experiences that shape and define America.
